Invisalign Braces Geelong: Would it cause problems for me to get my tongue pierced before getting my invisalign teeth straightening plate?

Would it cause problems for me to get my tongue pierced before getting my invisalign teeth straightening plate?
Hey guys,I really want to get my tongue pierced and think it would look really good. But i might be getting an invisalign plate to straighten my teeth. I have heard that tongue piercings can damage your teeth but i am not sure if i believe it. I just want to know if you think it will be ok if i get it before that. Because there is no metal in my mouth or wait until afterwards?

Answer
I have a few piercings myself. Now I do not know what that plate is so I cannot tell you there, but I myself have a small mouth and have my tongue done and it does not effect anything. I was suppose to get braces and your tongue doesn't get in the way when the dentist works so why would it then to.

However it has to be 110% healed BEFORE you go get that done so keep that in mind.

No the piercing itself does not mess with your teeth, but certain jewelry can. Some places make square or other odd shaped jewelry that are not the ball, those can damage your teeth. Make sure to stay with the ball jewelry and you will have no teeth damage, and it doesn't matter if the ball is metal or plastic. If you dork around with your metal ball well ya it can do damage but than again anything can do damage if you dork around. Some people do prefer plastic because if they accidentally bite it or something, the ball just breaks, but I preferably hate that and I wear metal and you rarely bite the jewelry, as long as you take care of it and wear the ball you'll be ok.

Like I said make sure you have at least 2 months of definite it's healed time before you get that done, if you still are unsure call and ask your local piercer. i really don't think it should cause any problems since mine doesn't but asking never hurt!

Tongue piercings can damage your teeth if your using metal balls and you drag the balls across your teeth. If you don't, there shouldn't be any damage.

I'd recommend you wait until after you get the invisaligns because the tongue will swell a lot during the healing period and may get in the way of the dentist. After you have the plate in, you should be fine. (source: Yahoo! Answers)
